BLOODY HELL

BLOODY HELL

The sound is deafening, yet somehow silent. The pungent stench of sweat testosterone and beer assaults the nostrils with each sharp, intake of breath, while the haunting crack of bone striking bone echoes around the room. Thousands stare, some shout, yet all are paralysed by whatunfolding-one human pummeling anotherhead like Play-Doh into an unforgiving floor turned crimson with blood. Itsadistic, ithypnotic and yet itutterly impossible to look away.

If this was in a pub car park, the winner would face prison. But the bloodied hands of the victor are not put in handcuffs, but thrust into the air, as the baying audience roar with delight. In this eight-sided cage hea hero, with his reward likely to be a shot at the heavyweight title. For anyone still yet to be hooked, this is just another Saturday night in the UFC-quite possibly the greatest sport invented by man. Oh, and this bout? Itnot even the main event of the evening.
